FAQs
Do you groom nervous/aggressive dogs?
On 1:1 days we cannot cater for all behaviours as some dogs do require more than one person to handle.
If a dog is too dangerous then we will ask you to pay for part of the groom which we have already done.

However, we will work with some dogs who require a muzzle for certain parts of the groom. we may ask you to stay for this to assist us.
Most often, dogs are aggressive towards a groomer because they are scared. We will try to work with the dog to get them in a relaxed state which will then lead them to be less aggressive.
We find it really rewarding to be able to groom a dog who was once very aggressive without having to use a muzzle.
We have a few dogs now who required muzzles throughout the entire groom when they first started coming and now they only need them for one or two parts of the groom!

What breeds do you groom and do you offer hand stripping?
We groom all breeds, however there may sometimes be breeds we may not have come across before.
We offer hand stripping on breeds such as border terriers, jack russels, dachsunds and german wirehaired pointers.
Do you cut nails?
Yes! We cut nails whether they are black or white.
When nails get cut, they actually become sharper but they are less likely to catch you due to their length. We do, however offer a filing service to ensure they are not too sharp.
Also, if nails have been left to grow, we will only be able to take a small amount off (see diagram below).

My dog doesn't get clipped, does it still need to be groomed?
100% yes! I can't stress this enough, almost all breeds of dog will benefit from regular grooming. For some breeds this won't need to be as frequent as others but it still needs to be done.
Dogs who moult a lot will benefit from a de-shedding treatment which, if done regularly, will stop as much hair covering your furniture at home. It also allows the natural cycle of hair shedding and re-growth to occur.
Dogs who don't shed much and don't get clipped will still benefit from a wash, dry, nail trim and ear clean as this allows us to check up on their health and ensure their nails don't get too long.
Puppy trims are a great way of A) socialising your puppy and B) getting it used to standing on a table and having their feet touched with a blow dryer on in the background. It's a scary world out there for puppies, the earlier on you get them used to different sounds and sensations, the better!
How long will it take?
This entirely depends on the dog's coat length, behaviour and what service they are having (and if they are having any extras).
Generally though a bath and dry will take around an hour and a full groom will take around 2 hours.
Can I stay with my dog?
Unfortunately , there is not enough space in the salon for you to stay while your dog is being groomed. You are welcome to stay in your parked car but the whole process does take around 2 hours so normally owners will either go home or visit nearby places such as Granny's cafe, the Weedon pet shop, the Depot or the plume of feathers pub.
We will always give you at least 15 minutes notice before your dog is ready for collection.
Do I have to pay a deposit?
From January 2025 onwards we will be using a new system called Fresha. Fresha will send you a text with your appointment details and will ask for you to put your card details in. If you turn up to your appointment you can then pay as normal or I can take the payment straight from your card. If you don't turn up to your appointment or cancel at short notice, your card will automatically be charged 50%.
